Biplane
and Her Boy
September
10, 2011
10am -
2pm
In
conjunction with the special traveling exhibit, Our Lives, Our Stories:
America’s
Greatest Generation, the Tulsa Air and Space Museum &
Planetarium will help make “Literature Come Alive” as we
present author Mary Coleman-Woolslayer
and her fascinating book, A
Biplane and Her Boy on Saturday, September 10 from 10am
– 2 pm.
Mary will share the
wonderful story of a biplane named Betty Lou and her boy who loved
to fly! Mary will provide hourly readings for children of all
ages that promise to entertain and challenge them to learn more
about history, airplanes and flight.
Outside on the ramp,
families will have the chance to learn more about vintage aircraft
and even see a Stearman up-close and
personal. Illustrator Kevin Stark will have some of his original artwork
from the book on display at the event. On the playground,
Tulsa Children’s Museum will provide a fun hands-on Bubbles
activity for this special day.

Inspirational Exhibit
NOW OPEN!
Born
in the 1910s and 1920s, America’s Greatest
Generation was shaped by events and circumstances, from the
prosperity of the Roaring 20s, to the Great Depression, to World
War II. They began with a sense of hope and optimism only to
be knocked down by economic devastation and a surprise attack on U.S.
territory. Over two decades of strife and starvation hardened
them for meeting head-on, the challenges of World War II.
Once they had survived and triumphed over the evils of the Second
World War, they developed the most powerful nation on earth, landed
men on the moon, and created and lived “The American Dream”.
This inspirational exhibit
draws on the stories and memories gathered together to help us understand not only who they were, but who we
are through free-standing photomural exhibits and object cases;
interactive materials, and freestanding immersive
environments. This exhibition was organized by the
Minnesota History Center/Minnesota Historical Society, St. Paul, MN and brought to you by
Mid-America Arts Alliance. It has been made possible through
NEH on the Road, a special initiative of the National Endowment for
the Humanities.
